Competition: Serie A

Market: Inter Milan to beat SPAL

Odds:

Serie A is back for yet another massive round of games at the competition continues to heat up. Italy s top league has been one of the most interesting this season as there are a huge number of teams vying for the top spaces and, with this in mind, Inter Milan travel to face SPAL on Sunday.

SPAL have been struggling this season and they are in desperate need of a number of wins to get out of trouble. After 21 games they have only won three, while they have lost 11 times and drawn seven, while they have scored 22 goals and conceded 39 times. In their last five they have only won once, while they have lost twice and drawn twice, which has seen them onto 16 points. SPAL are in a very prec…

Kolarov weighs up City move

Aleksandar Kolarov said he is considering leaving Premier League champions Manchester City in pursuit of regular first-team football.

The left-back has fallen behind Gael Clichy in the pecking order at Eastlands and has recently been linked with Serie A giants Inter Milan and Juventus.

Kolarov is giving nothing away on that front, but he did concede that he is currently evaluating his future with City.

I am in constant contact with my agent, so we will soon see what happens, the Serbia international told the Corriere dello Sport.

I am very happy here in Manchester, but my goal is to play with greater regularity. I said it to (coach Roberto) Mancini.

Money has nothing to do with it and I have no problem with wages. It s simply that I would lik…

Zidane faces decisive derby against indomitable Atletico Madrid

Zinedine Zidane said Real Madrid played their most complete game of the season against Borussia Monchengladbach – and one that probably saved his job.

Madrid s 2-0 victory secured their progress from a Champions League group for the 29th time in a row and most likely earned their coach a stay of execution from president Florentino Perez.

Zidane agreed afterwards his team have a knack for producing when it matters in big games, and he will need them to deliver again on Saturday.

Los Blancos host Atletico Madrid in the derby knowing victory will end their city rivals unbeaten start to the LaLiga season and cut the gap to the leaders to three points.

Atleti have not beaten Madrid in eight league meetings, but Zidane s men have only won one of the previous …

A-League Preview: Sydney wary of Wanderers ahead of derby

Sydney FC are taking nothing for granted heading into Saturday s clash with city-rivals Western Sydney Wanderers.

Rhyan Grant insists Sydney FC are not underestimating cellar-dwelling Western Sydney Wanderers as the two teams prepare to square-off in another instalment of the Sydney derby on Saturday.

After being crowned Asian champions in November, 2013-14 A-League runners-up Western Sydney have endured a nightmare season domestically, languishing two points adrift at the bottom of the table.

Having only managed one win in 16 matches this season after last week s late 2-1 loss at Adelaide United, Wanderers who have two games in hand are outsiders for Saturday s hosting of fifth-placed Sydney at Pirtek Stadium.

Tony Popovic s men will also be without susp…

Why Manchester United might win the Premier League and Arsenal won’t

My Wembley dream is over again after my beloved Watford lost 2-1 to Tottenham in the Carling Cup quarter-final last night. Watford were outclassed but not humiliated, so in these fairly desperate times for the Hornets, I’ll settle for that.

Nice prediction

With my team out of the cup, at least I’ve got my world renowned skills of prediction to to turn to! Yesterday, as well as predicting in hope rather than belief that Watford would win, I confidently predicted that Blackburn would beat a weakened Manchester United side at Old Trafford. As ‘Kids Soccer’ said in the comments on my article, ‘nice prediction Fisher.’!

As it turned out, Manchester United put on a wonder…

Different place, same Zlatan – Ibrahimovic determined to maintain winning DNA with LA Galaxy

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has vowed to take his trophy-winning DNA to LA Galaxy, insisting he will be the same Zlatan following his move to the MLS franchise.

The 36-year-old completed his switch to Galaxy on Thursday, just 24 hours after his release from Manchester United.

Though the MLS is a far cry from the competition of Europe s top leagues, Ibrahimovic, who has won league titles in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France, retains the same determination to add to his incredible trophy haul with the United States most successful club.

I want to accomplish as much as possible, he said in his first interview with the club s official website.  Wherever I have been, I ve won. I m coming with this objective. I come to win, I want to win.

I think it s in m…

Schalke release Boateng and Sam after Cologne defeat

Schalke have astonishingly released Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sidney Sam in the aftermath of Sunday s 2-0 Bundesliga defeat to Cologne.

Roberto Di Matteo s men have won just four times domestically since the resumption of the Bundesliga campaign following the mid-season break, a run of form that has ended Schalke s UEFA Champions League aspirations.

The 2-0 reverse at RheinEnergieStadion secured Cologne s top-flight status and left Schalke 13 points behind fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen.

Julian Draxler described Schalke s performance as one of the worst in recent years.

General manager Horst Heldt   who has reportedly held a crisis meeting with Di Matteo said after the game: Some players are regardless of contractual arrangements going to feel the conse…

Perez to spend 200m euros on new ´Galacticos´

Former Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will spend at least 200 million euros on players if he is re-elected to the post, reports claimed here Friday.

South Africa´s World Cup puts dreams in sight for African footballer

The modest apartment of Ulrich M Boume Dioba has a clear view of one of South Africa s World Cup stadiums, an image of hope for the young Gabonese footballer but also a stinging reminder of his struggles.

The 22-year-old from the central African country of Gabon played his nation s Premier League, his star has waned since arriving three years ago in South Africa, where he s struggling to find a club making the world stage represented by the Free State Stadium a distant dream.

It s been eight months since I had a team, says 22-year-old Dioba, his athletic build clad in a tracksuit and sneakers.

Dad sometimes sends me money, but that s painful for me. I am supposed to be sending the money home.

When I was small, dad told me off when I threw away food. …

Man City slap down Chelsea to show true grit of Premier League title contenders

Even by this season s standards, it was a strange start at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City went 4-4-2 despite the notable handicap of having no strikers. Stand-in goalkeeper Zack Steffen seemed to forget the back-pass rule. Chelsea started without Olivier Giroud or Tammy Abraham but felt looping Hakim Ziyech crosses was still the best Plan A. Kevin De Bruyne, for the 34th time in a row in the Premier League, failed to score with a shot from open play.

When City suddenly, imperiously took control as Chelsea froze in the bitter London cold, you wondered if those bizarre but competitive first 18 minutes had been conjured up by broadcasters to throw the stay-at-home viewer off the scent, a Premier League narrative directed by the Coen brothers.

All at once…
